Are you sometimes unsure about what your dog is saying? Take this Sweet Walks test to see how well you can read your dog’s body language.
BODY LANGUAGE TEST
Answer yes or no.
1. A wagging tail always means that a dog is happy.
2. Squinted eyes always means that a dog is sleepy.
3. A stressed or nervous dog has a crouching position.
4. A relaxed dog wags its tail with a wide, sweeping motion that’s even with the spine.
5. An alert dog has perky ears that point forward (look at the base of the ear for floppy-ear breeds.)
6. A nervous dog has a closed mouth that does not exhibit tension at the lips or around the snout.
7. A stressed or nervous dog avoids eye contact.
8. A dog who licks their lips is always saying they are hungry or want a treat.
9. An aggressive dog exposes their teeth and has a hard stare.
10. An aggressive dog has his tail curled under.

No. It depends on the kind of wag the tail has. Fro example, a tight wag could mean the dog is aggressive.

8. No. Not always. Lip licking can mean a number of things. The dog could be feeling nervous. Lip licking could also mean they have gastrointestinal or skin issues or even dental problems. See a vet if lip licking becomes excessive. (If they lick the air, they may want to enhance their sense of smell, which is quite normal).

10. No. An aggressive dog has a tail held low or high above the body. A dog with a tail tucked under the belly may be fearful. Or if their tail is low or tucked under, they are being submissive, when they are squinting or avoiding eye contact.
